{"id":21205,"date":"2020-06-08T22:16:55","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T22:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/share.ca\/our-press-releases\/share-wins-2020-ria-leadership-awards\/"},"modified":"2022-02-10T20:06:26","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T20:06:26","slug":"share-wins-2020-ria-leadership-awards","status":"publish","type":"press-release","link":"https:\/\/share.ca\/our-press-releases\/share-wins-2020-ria-leadership-awards\/","content":{"rendered":"<h2>Investor-led collaborative effort is advancing legislation in Canada requiring corporations find and fix human rights risks in their global supply chains<\/h2>\n<p><strong>June 8, 2020<\/strong> \u2013 SHARE has won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riacanada.ca\/awards\/advocacy-winner\/\">2020 Responsible Investors Association (RIA) Leadership Award for Advocacy for its work on the Modern Slavery Legislation Initiative<\/a>\u00a0to establish new legal obligations for corporations operating in Canada to address human rights risks in their global supply chains, and report them to investors.<\/p>\n<p>SHARE has coordinated individual corporate engagement and worked with politicians and government to help eradicate forced labour, child labour, and other risks affecting the most vulnerable of workers in global supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope this award is another step towards passing this new legislation, which has immense transformative potential for global human rights and for investors\u2019 own due diligence on human rights,\u201d said SHARE CEO Kevin Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>SHARE\u2019s Modern Slavery Legislation Initiative has been supported financially by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady\u2019s Missionaries, Sisters of St. Ann, the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, the Missionary Society of Saint Paul the Apostle and the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen investors are asked to identify social\u00a0concerns in responsible investment,\u00a0supply chain risks are\u00a0amongst\u00a0the most\u00a0commonly cited,\u201d said Thomas. \u201cThis legislation will allow\u00a0investors to rely on\u00a0comparable and\u00a0comprehensive disclosure from\u00a0corporations\u00a0that address those\u00a0concerns, allowing better decisions and\u00a0additional\u00a0support for\u00a0delivering on\u00a0commitments under the UN Sustainable Development Goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SHARE is also proud to announce that its partnership with NATOA \u2013 the Reconciliation and Responsible Investment Initiative \u2013 won an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riacanada.ca\/awards\/market-education-winner\/\">RIA Leadership Award for Market Education<\/a>.
